The checkup includes an open and supportive conversation between the client and one of our psychologists. Depending on the client’s age and concerns, the discussion may explore areas such as school, work, friendships, family life, relationships, and everyday experiences. Psychological assessment tools may also be used as part of the mental health check-up process.
By gaining a more comprehensive understanding of the client’s well-being, our psychologists can recognize areas that may benefit from further attention and provide personalized recommendations for the next steps. These may include psychological support, therapy, or a more comprehensive assessment when appropriate.
Therapy Approaches
Evidence-based approaches, tailored to each client, to help build practical skills and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps teenagers and adults understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours influence one another.
In therapy, our psychologists guide clients to identify unhelpful thought patterns, challenge cognitive distortions, and develop more balanced ways of thinking (Diachkova et al., 2024). CBT has been shown to support individuals experiencing anxiety and insomnia, while also helping reduce the risk of depression related to sleep difficulties (Bilek et al., 2025; Chen et al., 2025).
By building practical coping skills, CBT empowers clients to manage stress, regulate emotions, and respond to life’s challenges with greater clarity and confidence.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed to support individuals who experience intense emotions and difficulty regulating them. This approach combines acceptance and change strategies, helping clients feel understood while also learning skills to improve their emotional responses.
DBT focuses on four key areas: mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. It is particularly helpful for individuals dealing with mood swings (Dijk et al., 2013 as cited in Jones et al., 2023), impulsive behaviors, self-harm tendencies (Haktanir et al., 2022), or relationship challenges.
With the support of our psychologists, clients develop practical tools to navigate overwhelming emotions, build healthier relationships, and feel more in control of their lives.
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach that helps teenagers and adults respond to difficult thoughts and emotions with greater flexibility. Instead of avoiding uncomfortable feelings, clients learn to accept them, stay present, and take meaningful action based on their personal values.
ACT has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety while improving psychological flexibility, well-being, and daily functioning (Beygi et al., 2023). It may also support mindfulness, pain acceptance, quality of life, and healthier responses to ongoing discomfort or distress (Martinez-Calderon et al., 2024).
Through mindfulness, acceptance, and cognitive defusion techniques, ACT can help clients manage worries, reduce distractions, and focus on what is most helpful and meaningful to them.
Counselling
Counselling provides a safe, supportive space for individuals to explore their thoughts, emotions, and life challenges. Whether you are a child, teenager, or adult, our therapists are here to listen without judgement and help you make sense of what you’re going through.
This approach is flexible and client-centered, allowing sessions to be tailored to your unique needs, whether it’s dealing with stress, family issues, school difficulties, life transitions, emotional struggles, grief or negative past experiences.
Through guided conversations and gentle support, counseling helps you gain clarity, build resilience, and move forward with greater confidence.
Play Therapy
Play Therapy is a developmentally appropriate approach that allows children to express thoughts and emotions through play—their natural language. Using toys, storytelling, and creative activities, children can process experiences while building communication, interaction, and social skills (Elbeltagi et al., 2023; Yustesari & Azizah, 2023).
In a safe and nurturing environment, trained therapists help children explore feelings, develop emotional regulation, and work through challenges such as anxiety, behavioral issues, social difficulties, or trauma-related experiences (Ray et al., 2022).
Play Therapy can also support confidence, healthy emotional development, and stronger child-parent relationships by encouraging understanding, respect, and emotional connection (Elbeltagi et al., 2023; Piyadehkoushar & Taher, 2024).
Art Therapy
Art Therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses creative expression such as drawing, painting, and other visual art activities to help individuals explore emotions, reduce stress, and support mental well-being. Research suggests that art therapy can support emotional expression, self-awareness, stress reduction, and interpersonal connection as part of mental health care (Shukla et al., 2022).
No artistic skills are required. Instead, Art Therapy focuses on the creative process as a way to express thoughts, feelings, and experiences that may be difficult to put into words. For children and adolescents, art therapy may also help reduce anxiety symptoms and support healthier coping (Zhang et al., 2024).
Guided by a trained art therapist, sessions provide a safe and supportive space for self-discovery, emotional healing, and personal growth. For individuals processing trauma or complex emotional experiences, visual art-making may offer a meaningful way to explore difficult experiences beyond verbal expression (Maddox et al., 2024).
